The Cure

Formed in local towns in Horley, The Cure played regular gigs at the Lakers Arms in Redhill.

ONCE IN 78’: The Cure at Laker’s Hotel, Redhill, UK, August 27, 1978

THE CURE play on the floor in front of the stage at The Laker’s Pub, in Redhill. Chris Parry is in front and likes what he sees. After the gig, the Cure and Parry go to The Home Cottage opposite and talk about their future together. He’s uncertain what he’s going to call his label. His first thought was Night Nurse but the Cure balked at that. What about 18 age? “How about when we all turn 21?” (They were all nineteen at the time). How about Fiction then? Chris tells them that he’ll arrange the papers and set up studio time.”

Housemartins

The song “Happy Hour” is inspired by Paul Heaton’s despair of the lunchtime attitudes of his workmates at an Insurance company in Redhill. Apparently, they used to head to the George and Dragon or the Hatch in Reigate.
